Chapter 13

After having a nice dinner with his wife and during their after-dinner cocktail, Connie asked Jesse “Where are you?” He told her his thoughts were at Guantanamo Bay. She suggested he put his body within reach of his mind. That's when Jesse decided to leave for Guantanamo Bay early in the morning and did not finish his drink. “8 hours bottle to throttle.” When they arrived home, he began packing but suddenly stopped. He walked up to his wife, who was watching him pack, put his arms around her neck and kissed her lightly on the lips and said, "I love you."

"You’d better. And you owe me for promising dinner and a nice evening together and now packing to leave in a few hours."

"You're right. My head is elsewhere. You get to decide on any dinner, anywhere on this planet, you would like when I get back."

"Are you serious?"

"Absolutely."

"I can't wait for you to get back."

As Jesse finishes packing, he can't help but wonder what trouble he may have just gotten himself into with his wife. He tells himself that he must let his wife know it is not fair to take advantage of him when his mind and his body are not in sync. He smiles because he knows it can't be all that bad. On his way to the airport, he calls Master Sergeant Keller to let him know he is heading that direction. The Sergeant tells the Admiral, “your F-4 is ready to go, and she is equipped with four AIM-9 rockets. Also, ground refueling is set up in Houston. They can handle the ordinance on your wings better, at this time, than DFW.’

"Great. I will be at the hangar in less than 5." He then calls his wife and again tells her how much he appreciates her and her understanding and informs her he is not a rich man. Connie knows Jesse is referring to “dinner anywhere on this planet”. Connie responds, “We’ll see sweetheart, we’ll see. You be safe and I love you.’ Smiling, Connie breaks the connection and couldn’t hear Jesse's words. "Oh shit."

Airborne and on his way to Houston, Jesse gets General Johnson on the horn. "General, I thought you would be asleep. You sound wide awake."

"I am wide awake, what do you want?"

"Not a problem General, I will call back when you are asleep."

"Ass hole, you better be on your way to Guantanamo. And stop interrupting me like this."

"On my way. I will keep you posted. Out."

Stopping in Houston to refuel, the Admiral is now on his way to Guantanamo when he calls Richard. "I am two and a half hours out. You sound out of breath. How are things there?"

"I am alive. At my request, Captain Wallace moved me into a trailer over by where the Humvee caught fire so I could keep watch on things. At the time, I thought it a great idea.
